PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

Welcome to the Transmountain T-STEM ECHS website. T-STEM stands for Texas--Science, Technology, Engineering and Math; while ECHS means Early College High School. Our goal in developing the site is to provide maximum information to our campus stakeholders regarding our school.

Transmountain T-STEM ECHS opened its doors in August 2008 with a ninth grade class. A new class of 125 freshmen students is being added each year, resulting in about 500 students when we reach full capacity. TMECHS (as our school title is abbreviated) is fortunate to be partnered with the Transmountain campus of the El Paso Community College. The two entities share facilities and collaboratively work toward providing opportunities that promote STEM fields and graduation plans which meet both a high school diploma and a college Associate’s Degree. It is our expectation and goal that our students graduate within four years with both diplomas. We, therefore, provide on-going interventions and support services to our students.

All of our students take the ACCUPLACER placement exam once admitted into our school in order to be enrolled in Dual Credit and/or College courses. Students must master a Reading, Writing, and Math portion of the exam to be placed in required classes. To assist in mastering the exam and in transitioning our students into a new setting, all new students attend a Summer Bridge Program.

Through the collaborative efforts of the University of Texas at El Paso, the El Paso Community College, and the Transmountain T-STEM ECHS, we also offer a summer research opportunity for students. This opportunity assists the students in meeting their Distinguished Achievement Plan (DAP) advanced measure requirements and STEM Capstone Project. Students involved in this research opportunity work hand-in-hand with college professors in a lab setting and conduct student developed research projects.

As you can see, our students are actively engaged in a highly rigorous curriculum that will prepare them to be College Ready/Career Ready/Life Ready. We, therefore, invite you to become an active member of our school community.
