Hello, I am Constance Luna and I teach Pre-AP English 1 at Transmountain Early College High School  (TMECHS) in El Paso, Texas. This year will be my sixth year teaching at TMECHS. I love reading and writing and I enjoy helping students to be stronger critical readers, writers and  thinkers. I am excited to start a new school year at TMECHS!

I graduated from Fargo North High School in Fargo, North Dakota in 1991. I attended college at North Dakota State University for about three years before I decided to join the U.S. Navy. I spent 51/2 years in the Navy, where I was trained and worked as a hospital corpsman and surgical technologist at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. It was in Virginia that I met and married my husband (who was also active duty Navy) and gave birth to my oldest son. In 2000 I was honorably discharged from the Navy, but continued to work at NMCP as a civilian surgical technologist.

In 2004 my husband left the Navy and I left my career in Virginia to move to El Paso to help my in-laws. I continued to work as a surgical technologist in Las Cruces, New Mexico at Mountain View Medical Center for a year and a half. I decided at this time to use my G.I. Bill from the Navy to go back to school. I attended UTEP and earned my bachelors degree in English with a minor in secondary education in December of 2008. During this time I gave birth to my youngest son. I continued my education  and in the Spring of 2011 I graduated with my Master of Arts in Teaching English from UTEP. I was given the Outstanding Graduate Student  award by my professors. I was fortunate to get the opportunity to teach here at TMECHS in 2010, so during my first year of teaching I was also completing my Master's degree. It was challenging, but a great example for the students. I am happy to call El Paso  and TMECHS my home.
